Hi Fanie, I'm busy rectifying the post as we speak. Somehow it didn't load properly.

Re: My '69 / '70 Rebel

Hi there,

Thanx for the comment. The mechanicals seem to be sorted now, and next I'll have to start on the body. She'll eventually be Satin Black with all the dents and crusty's removed.
I'm not running headers, but the guys at Powerflow in Cape Town split the exhaust for me with a Y piece right under the rear gearbox mounting and ran dual pipes to the rear, over the axles and then placed two small free flow silencers inside the rear fenders, with one 63mm tailpipe under each tail light.
She sounds great, not too noisy, but just a nice deep rumble. People who do not know much about cars have actually asked what size V8 I'm running. :D
Our friend in Cape Town, with the orange Rustler bakkie has been a great help with regards to parts and advice. I managed to source a torque converter from him, which works perfectly.

I'll post more pics soon, as I go along with the project. I am considering selling my BMW 530i, as I just love driving the Rebel.

Cheers,

Arno

Re: My '69 / '70 Rebel

arno, did you buy the car from a guy in ceres or thereabouts?
if so, i was also looking at the same car about a year ago. what stopped me from buying it was the fact that im in pta. and driving an unknown vehicle back to pta seemed a bit rough at the time...i anyhow ended up buying a car from durban, got the rust free...
congrats.

Re: My '69 / '70 Rebel

Yep, I bought it in Ceres. Good thing you did not buy it and attempt to drive it back home.
The gearbox was shot, and I only realised what a gamble I took driving it back to Cape Town after I took the drums off and checked the brakes, once home. The rear linings fell off as I removed the drums, and the wheel cylinder washers was spurting out brake fluid.
She runs well now, after replacing the gearbox, torque converter and overhauling the brakes. I had to rebuild the carb as well last week. Now all she needs is a respray...

I'll post some more pics soon, as I'm not using my own PC at the moment. Joys of being out on the road for business...
