My VIP

Hi, my name is Bertie and I just recently aquired my first Valiant, with the original slant six engine, single barrel carb. I am not sure but was told it is a 1973 Valiant VIP, it has the VIP badges, but I am confused. Some articles that I have read states that Valiant did not have disc brakes until May 1974, but my Valiant is fiited with disc brakes. Also, if anyone can help with the following; when I apply brakes their is a shudder on the brakes, would skimming the discs and replacing the brake shoes help? and I am also looking for a workshop manual for my Valiant and the bonnet emblem for six cylinders. Thanks and regards.

Re: My VIP

Hi.

The articles you read were wrong.
I have a 1972 Charger and it came with standard disc brakes in front.
All later models had disc in front and drums rear.
Yes, skimming should help if the discs are warped. Do the front and rear drums to be safe.

Re: My VIP

Your Val VIP looks in very good nick. However, I would think it is either a late 72-mid 73 model after which styling changes to both front and rear light clusters were made and If not mistaken the front 1/4 light done away with as well. Brett

Re: My VIP

Yes, the car is in very good condition, I think it is a late 72 because the date of first registration on the papers read "1973-01-01". I will take more piuctures as it looks now and post them. It appears that everything, body, interrior and engine is original. I however still need some small things like, interior cab light, one door lock knob, one doorhandle (the one that is flush with the body), interior boor light fiiting, bonnet emblem, some nicer hubcaps, cubby hole open/close meganism and a nice valiant key ring. If anyone can assist I will be glad to hear from you. Also, when is there some sort of get together with the valiants?
