Side mirror

I got my 74 Regal with an ugly driver side mirror. Not sure of original.

Chromed pewter arm mounted to the side of the door - below the ridge.
Big ugly soft-rubber housing for the mirror glass.

It was quite unstable - dangled to much. I tried to fix it but ended up stripping the
pewter arm's internal tread - and eventually also breaking the glass.

So I'll need to get a nice new chrome side mirror and also a matching
one for he left hand side.

All the others I've seen have the bracket attached to the top ridge
of the door - close the the window. But I don't want to drill new
holes at this stage.

So for the time being I found a cheap plastic mirror for a old style
Nissan 1400 bakkie at Midas. The mounting has the same footprint on the bodywork.
Except its got bolts seated into the plastic of the mounting and that
requires you to open up the door and fit the nuts on the inside.

I melted out the bolts and very poorly drilled some holes through the
bracket so that I could use the original self tapping screws.

So it does not look very good, and the mirror frequently needs to be adjusted,
but at least I can drive it with a bit more confidence in the mean time.
